Failed Charms

Photograph courtesy of Tess Kinkaid, Magpie Tales

It was a duel to the death
Thrusts clashes lunges
Harsh rhythmn
Metal meeting metal

A backward jump onto a step
Pursued then held
Against a pillar
Steel through flesh

He lay on the cold stone ground
His sword beside him
Tassel bloodied
Scrunched and matted

They prised his hand from his chest
Forced his fist
Blessed tokens
From his beloved

Lovingly picked pressed and dried
African violet and
Shamrock green
Failed lucky charms

  1. Two Magpies rolled into one. Nicely done.

  2. Love the way you were able to combine the two prompts and write this superb piece!

  3. very cleverly thought out and written!

  4. FABULOUS!! This is really excellent Bee! Love your header too...

  5. Thank you everyone.

I have come to the point where I don't like to miss a Magpie and last week was just too much. No immediate inspiration and little time.

The reality is that I don't much care for my contribution this week. So it's heartening to see, from the comments that you think differently - thank you friends.

  6. Now I'm going to be cheeky - how would it be if your said :-

    'forced from his fist
    blessed tokens
    which his beloved
    had lovingly picked and pressed'

Do email me direct if youd like to tell me off for being a pain! lol

  7. Jinsky you hit it on the head.

I know mine is not right and that's why I wasn't happy with it. Yours is much better.

I have no intention of telling you off! But I now know where to find you!!

  8. Beautiful and bittersweet. Wonderful write, B.
