Banquet Scene with a Lute Player by Nicolas Tournier, 1625

Methinks
'Tis typical of men
Each concentrating
On whatever his fancy
Not one of these dandies
Seated around me
Didst  think to ask
If a
Vegetarian I be

  6. Good one! (Although I think the pancakes in front of the lute player might have been the vegetarian option and she just got the wrong order!)

  7. Isn't it funny how everyone is so self-absorbed? Your Middle English style is perfect for this period! Excellent! xo

  8. I posted a comment already and it disappeared.

Great take on the prompt, the vegetarian thing would explain her paleness.

  10. And be you? This is a very funny Magpie, brief and to the point, and written with the sound of a much older English, which adds to the poem's effectiveness. Thank you.

  11. AAAH the reason I no longer have dinner parties. Very nicely done.

But why pray tell is this woman alone at this table with four men? Women seldom in that age went unaccompanied by mom, sister, chaperone or lady's maid.

  12. This is funny. That took me by surprise. Very inventive. Like the Old English speech as well, which really adds to the voice. Good job!

  13. Many thanks everyone for visiting and commenting. I thought having the extra week, I'd have more time but afraid it didn't work out that way!
