Lighthouse Dandelions by Jamie Wyeth

What is an English summer
Without
Rubbing your body
With burdock leaves
Soothing
Away
Prickling
Nettle bite
Stinging the skin
What is an English summer
Without
Sitting in a field
Holding the stalk
Up high
And
Blowing
Dandelion fluff
Into the breeze
What is an English summer
Without
Lazing with friends
Raising a glass
Of dandelion
And
Burdock
Drinking a toast
To each other
What is an English summer
Without
Lazing with friends
Raising a glass
Of dandelion
And
Burdock
Drinking a toast
To each other

I believe that is precisely what one does during an English summer. It captures the essence of living in the moment and enjoying life.
ReplyDeleteDandelion and burdock - nectar of the Gods! Whatever happened to it? I like this evocation of childhood summers and yes, I did all those things.
ReplyDeleteLovely! I did not know you could use burdock to ease nettle stings, where I live there are A LOT of nettles and I suspect any day I will fall into a patch
ReplyDeleteGreat, evoking all those wonderful summers of old! Very nostalgic! Thanks for sharing Bee!

Exactly! Good to hear it for all of those! - and in such a fine poem, too.
ReplyDeleteI do miss the dandelions of my youth ... not too many of them on the High Desert!!! Dave is right .. a fine poem.
ReplyDelete"Dandelion fluff"... I like this and have never heard it called fluff. Perfect! And I like the way you pull the burdock and dandelion together again at the end. Great job!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely summer!
ReplyDeleteDandelions do bring people together...
ReplyDeleteA midsummer nights Emglish Dream !, yeah baby
ReplyDelete..now you long me for both... aww... smiles...
ReplyDeleteAn English summer sounds divine!
ReplyDeleteYou have captured the essence of an English summer. Would you exchange your present home to return? The trouble is that all too often an English summer lasts for one or two days now and then;-)
ReplyDeleteWithout these, apparently winter. Beautiful homage to summer.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much everyone. Your visits and comments are very much appreciated even though in many cases I have not returned the courtesy. I hope to be better at it next week. Time is not on my side.
