Over the years
With each hurt
A wall was built
Invisible
To all but me
A fortress
To protect
The aching soul
No one could
Penetrate the heart
That was so cold
Stonehenge
To many a lover
Icy brick
Freezes over
The yielding body
Now from nowhere
Trust comes softly
Layer by layer is
Stripped
Caressing hands gently
Peel away
Shell replaced
By awakening heart

Nice. I was going this direction and then got caught up with the shells.
ReplyDeleteAs always you cast a spell of feelings quite well.
I like your shells.
DeleteWell said and so true. Love this line "Trust comes softly". But each time it's lost again, it comes even slower, maybe never completely.
ReplyDeleteThank you. What you say about trust is so true.
DeleteVery nice blog Bee.
ReplyDeleteLovely response to the prompt. I've not managed one this week - inspiration eluded me.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It wasn't so easy! All I couldl think of was white wrapping paper!
DeleteThis is beautiful, Bee! A friend of an acquaintance of mine once told her she had a 'no trespassing' sign posted on her heart. Your poem made me think of that .........
ReplyDeleteThe friend had obviously been hurt once too often. Sad. Once is enough for most of us. Thank you fro liking it although it didn't quite go where I wanted it too. It would have been too long.
DeleteA very sweet poem. Well done. So sorry about the rains. k.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteBee,
ReplyDeleteI enjoy seeing where this prompt took everybody; it could not fail to reach in to the depth of emotion in each of us. I wonder if that was woodward's goal?
Nicely done.

I wonder........
Deletelovely poem- I know so many broken hearts that have been bricked up.
ReplyDeleteI wish their hearts could be healed. Thanks for your kind comments-always appreciated!
Me too. Life has to go on.
DeleteYou're welcome. Thank you for coming here too.
it can be so hard to come back from that...to tear down those walls and be willing to let someone in again...but it can also open us to some beautiful things...
ReplyDeleteIt can be hard but not impossible - building trust is the hard part.
DeleteI think everyone can relate to this in some way. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteProbably most.
DeleteThank you.
