I'm not really a football fan. I always say that until it gets really exciting - towards the end!
However, I couldn't help but get caught up in the excitement this morning as I watched the Opening Ceremony of the World Cup in Johannesburg's Soccer City Stadium.
It was quite a spectacle which caused me to remark to my husband that after all that the people of South Africa have been through, they have endured and this magnificent show whether the country can afford it or not, was a triumph.
There was joy - pure unadulterated joy. The excitement that came into our living room via satellite was infectious. It brought tears to my eyes.
I also remarked that it seems to be that only through sport are people of different ethnic backgrounds brought together in unity.
I pray that the day will come when it doesn't take an event such as this to bring all nations to the point where people are not judged by the colour, creed or race.
I had the same thoughts, Bee, when I watched the opening.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I am not a football fan either, I also enjoyed seeing the film "Invictus", which I think you'll enjoy too if you haven't seen it.
