Joy Followed by Sadness

How does one deal with a shock and deep sadness that follows on the heels of great joy?

Earlier this evening members of the family celebrated my daughter`s birthday as guests of her boyfriend.   It was a beautiful evening.  She was taken by complete surprise  and I will share how in the coming days. During the celebration, news arrived of an addition to the family by way of an 8lbs 2.ozs baby girl. So all was wonderful in the world.

At home,   much later I learned via a Face Book post appearing in my News Feed that a friend of the last 20 years is longer with us.   To say I am in shock is an understatement.

Life is unpredictable as is death. A lesson for us all.  Carp Diem.

RIP Cathy Busst, lovely lady and dear friend.

  1. I always hated that phrase the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. More like the fickle finger of fate. Nice portrait of the best of times and the worst of times in a snap shot of life.

  2. Loss is hard. I sometimes feel Mom and Dad here but then I wonder if it's not my own coping mechanism.

    Sorry for your loss.

Granny use to say for every death there is a birth. Don't know how true it is but it seemed comforting at the time.
