A Colonial Past

Not like then
Choppy waters
Dipping through the
Bay of Biscay

Gliding through Egypt's
Manmade waterway
Sandy banks flanking
The Suez Canal

On towards Aden
Colonial territory
Women in purdah
Duty free Chanel

It's peaceful now
Gently steaming
Between lush green
Serene rolling hills

    1. Thank you so much. I did that sail from Southampton to Singapore and back in the 50s. Parts are stuck in my memory even though I was very young.
