Poetry Wednesday: New Life
On Saturday last
I held
New life
Three days old
A tiny bundle
Relaxed, asleep
No worldly care
Mummy’s lip
Tiny fingers
Unclenched
Relaxed
Unaware
Of the drama
Panic
Fear
That surrounded
Her entry
Into our world
Of the tears
Prayers
As heartbeat
Slowed
Now she sleeps
On my shoulder
Surrounded by
Love and care
Unconcerned
Of what
Her future holds
No knowledge
Of what
Her contribution
To the world
Will be
I am reminded
Of my own
My son
Once new life
Now taking
Photographs
Of the miracle
In my arms
Of my daughter
Once new life
Just like this
Her head
Against
My shoulder
Welcome
Jayla

Bee, this is a beautiful poem about a beautiful topic. I can feel so much of your emotion as you describe the magic of holding that little bundle of new life in your hands.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting!
Yes, I agree with Nicholas V. It is a beautiful poem and I hope you are giving a copy of it to the mother of this precious new life.
ReplyDeleteThis poem is beautiful...life is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSomething forgotten momentarily. Thank you for reminding me.
This brings back some sweet memories for me. Is there anything nicer than that tiny warm bundle sound asleep on your shoulder? It's a feeling you never forget.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful poem about such a beautiful bundle of joy. Fond memories of bonding with my grand daughter in such a similar manner.
ReplyDeleteBrings back memories for sure. nice to meet oyu. A fellow expat wondering how on earth I ended up here! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Bee,
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful poem, just right for such a beautiful baby. Congratulations to you and the family on her birth into her new world. She will love to have this as a momery for when she is grown up I'm sure :)
