Lest We Forget 11/11/2012

In Flanders Fields

By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918) Canadian Army

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Old soldiers Never Die

My heart is in my mouth today as I remember that attending Remembrance Day Services worldwide and seeing my father on parade was part of growing up.

  1. very touching, as I think of the self-less service so often given....

  2. This year was the first time for many that I didn't watch it - because it was actually the 11.11 I went down to our local parade.

  3. I always used to go with my late father in law to the MOTH parade on the 11th Nov.

as so much else, 9/11, Apartheid and the Holocaust to mention but 3, we must NEVER forget.
