Fiery End

MAGPIE 145

Photograph courtesy Tess Kinkaid, Magpie Tales

They said you were comfortable
Once
In your early days
When
You were younger

Everyone wanted a part of you
Sitting
On your sturdy arm
Wanting
Needing total ownership

No one was able to have you
Completely
You were aloof icily
Cold
Forever standing alone

I never liked you anyway
Dark
Just like your owner
Bonfire
You're joining him

  1. For some reason it reminds me of a woman... especially of a mother. Everyone wants the woman, wants to touch her and cling to her, but she doesn't want anything to do with it. Perhaps because she was raised to be aloof, and in the end she suffers the same fate as her mother.

  5. looks like those chairs, they used to have in waiting rooms at doctors, they polished them and I could never reach the floor with my short legs and used to slide off ............."bad chair" ...indeed, I enjoyed this one *chuckle*

  8. Poor chair. But for a while in your poem I fancied you were talking about the occupant. The burning of lingering spirits.

  9. Oh, that is one angry woman. Jealous of the chair - this is deeper than it seems!
