Inspiration does not come
Easily
When the Muse sleeps
I
Lay down my head

Closing my heavy lids
Hoping
That she will awake
The
Slumber in me

Outside of my window
Staring
Closely in at me
Dancing
Flowers imitating skulls

Blessed peace must  come
Surely
To colour out the
Images
Of killing fields

Eleven Years On

Margaretha Gerrard (Nee Tischler) 1925 - 2003

 August 1995, RI.

Today I light a candle and raise a glass to my wonderful, beautiful Mummy who left us eleven years ago today two weeks short of her 78th birthday.

Glamourous, vibrant, exciting, exotic, volatile, full of fun, generous to a fault, family protector and much loved by the many, many people whose lives she touched in one way or another, Margaretha Gerrard  is still sorely missed.

Here's to you Mummy.

I imagine you in heaven with Daddy, watching over us and raising a heavenly glass to each other and to those you left behind.

There was a young blonde named Aurora
Who borrowed the boyfriend's Fedora
The problem arose
When she took off her clothes
And now everyone simply adores her

( I thought better of writing my first thought for the last line.  I so wanted to use the words explor 'er  but I thought it may be seen as a little more than risqué and I didn't want to be thrown out of Magpie Tales!)

I wrote this as The Notes of Life  for Magpie 48 in January 2011.  For Magpie 205, I have changed the title and the  last stanza.
